Out of network

Superbills for out-of-network plans.

If your plan isn't one I bill in-network, you can still use insurance benefits via reimbursement. Pay the session fee directly, and I'll provide a superbill (a receipt with the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurer needs). You submit it, your insurer pays you back at your out-of-network rate. Most plans cover something. Some cover most of it. Your benefits department can give you the exact number.

Self-pay is also a real option. Some clients prefer to keep the work outside the insurance record. The fee is $250 per fifty-minute session, billed at the time of service.

Common questions

Questions I get asked about insurance.

  • Do you bill insurance directly?
Yes. For in-network plans, I submit claims directly and you only pay your copay or coinsurance at the time of service. Your benefits department can confirm what your outpatient mental health coverage looks like.
  • What if my plan isn't on your list?
Reach out and ask. The list above covers most major Oregon plans but it isn't exhaustive. I add carriers periodically, and some plans pay out-of-network at a level that makes a superbill worthwhile.
  • What's a superbill?
A receipt with the diagnostic and procedure codes your insurance needs to reimburse you for out-of-network care. You pay me directly at the session, then submit the superbill to your insurance, and they pay you back at whatever your out-of-network benefit allows. I generate them monthly.
  • What if I don't have insurance, or want to pay out of pocket?
The self-pay fee is $250 per fifty-minute session. Some clients prefer self-pay even when they have coverage; it keeps the work entirely outside the insurance record. We can talk about whether that makes sense for your situation.
  • Will you give me a clinical diagnosis on the claim?
Insurance billing requires a diagnosis code on each claim. We talk about that openly: what diagnosis fits, what it means clinically, what it does and doesn't say about you. If diagnosis on the record is a concern, self-pay is the alternative.
  • Does insurance cover online therapy?
Yes, the same way it covers in-person work. Telehealth has been parity-billed in Oregon since 2020. Most clients see no difference in their copay or coverage between online and in-person.
